Second thing to remember when working on obedience to the
Lord;
2) Know the Word
The Bible is our guide book to Christian Living and how we
communicate with God. It is crucial to know the Word. How do you obey the rules
if you don’t know the rules or guidelines?
Deuteronomy 4:5-8- “No
other nation has laws that are as fair as the ones the Lord my God told me to
give you. If you faithfully obey them when you enter the land, you will show
other nations how wise you are. In fact, everyone that hears about your laws
will say, ‘That great nation certainly is wise!’ And what makes us greater than
other nations? We have a God who is close to us and answers our prayers.” (CEV)
Psalm 19:7- “The Law
of the Lord is perfect; it gives us new life. His teachings last forever,
and they give wisdom to ordinary people.” (CEV)
There is no error in God’s Word. It is perfect and Holy;
creating a stable foundation for us to stand on.
Psalm 119:89- “Our
Lord, you are eternal! Your word will last as long as the heavens.”
(CEV)
His Word does not expire. It was, is, and always will be;
just as He is.
Ecclesiastes 8:4- “The
king’s word is law. No one can ask him, “Why are you doing this?” (CEV)
The Word is law, which is why it is so important for us to
know! Ignorance is bliss, but we need to know what the law is to better live a
life pleasing to the Lord. If you moved to a new town, would you not want to be
aware of the law there so you could be a good citizen?
Proverbs 30:5-6- “Everything
God says is true- and it’s a shield for all who come to him for safety. Don’t
Change what God has said! He will correct you and show that you are a liar.”
(CEV)
God does not lie. The Word is from God, therefore it is the
truth.
Isaiah 55:9- “Just as
the heavens are higher than the earth, my thoughts and my ways are higher than
yours.” (CEV)
We are humans. We are not meant to understand or comprehend
everything God has or says for us at any given moment. That is where trusting
God comes in. Know He has your best interest at heart and that there is a
reason He is God and we are not!
John 1:1-3- “In the
beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was
truly God . From the very beginning the word was with God. And with this Word
God created all things. Nothing was made without the Word. Everything that was
created”(CEV)
John 8:47- “Anyone who
belongs to God will listen to his message. But you refuse to listen, because
you don’t belong to God.”(CEV)
If you call yourself a Christian, you have to believe the
Bible is the truth. You can’t pick and choose what you want to follow out of
it. Partial obedience is just as bad as disobedience. Rebellion is purpose
driven disobedience.
John 17:17- “Your word
is the truth. So let this truth make them completely yours.”(CEV)
Accepting God’s Word as truth is necessary as a child of
God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17- “Everything
in the Scriptures is God’s Word. All of it is useful for teaching
and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live. The
Scriptures train God’s servants to do all kinds of good deeds.”(CEV)
Hebrews 4:12- “What
God has said isn’t only alive and active! It is sharper than any
double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and sounds and through
our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our
hearts.” (CEV)
The Bible is practical. Do not doubt that it can be used for
all current day living and situations! It is living and breathing, God uses it
to speak to us despite its aged content. The Word is our guide for living and
holds us to God.
Revelation 22:18-19- “Here
is my warning for everyone who hears the prophecies in this book: If you add
anything to them, God will make you suffer all the terrible troubles written in
this book. If you take anything away from these prophecies, God will not let
you have part in the life-giving tree and in the holy city described in this
book.”(CEV)
